General Membership Meeting Minutes

Tuesday March 11, 2025

Officers Present: President Sean Moore; Secretary/Treasurer Mike Redmond; Executive Board Members Gary Rundio & John Collins. Quorum Met.

Meeting Called to Order: President Sean Moore called the meeting to order a 7:09pm and led us in the Pledge to the Flag.

Approval of the February Meeting Minutes: Secretary Mike Redmond: A motion to wave the reading and approve the February  Meeting Minutes was made by Jim Dempsey and seconded by John Collins. Motion Carried.

Treasurer Report: Treasurer Mike Redmond reported that we have a total of $15,858.21 in the bank account. We have $6,612.88 in the Checking Account and $9,045.33 in the Scholarship Account. We have an additional $200 in cash for the Fish Fry Bank. Our March expenses so far are $2,576.68. That includes $1,878.78 in fish fry expense for the first two fish fry’s and our $500 Charity Donation for Proclamation Day. Our sales for the first fish fry were $2,160.00. A motion to accept the Treasurer Report was made by Preston Reece and seconded by Gary Rundio. Motion Carried.

Membership Report: Secretary Mike Redmond reported that we have a total of 116 Members with forty-two total new. We still have 20 Members from 2024 who have not renewed their Membership yet. President Sean Moore then reviewed the ten new applications with the membership. A motion to accept the new members was made by Caroline Castro and seconded by Mike Mobley. Members Approved.

Member Introductions: Since we had so many new members, we went around the table giving introductions and short bios on ourselves.

Lenten Fish Frys: We had our first Fish Fry on Friday March 7th. We had a total of 127 meals sold. 116 Adult and 11 Kids. We now have the ability for Members to volunteer on Signup Genius for the various spots we need filled. Nomination of Officers: Our March Meeting is when we take nominations for the New Executive Board. Elections are in May (if there are any contested positions) with the new Board assuming duties on June 1. President: A motion was made by Jim Dempsey and seconded by Mike Molloy for Sean Moore as President. Motion Carried. Vice-President: A motion was made by Sean Moore and seconded by Caroline for Joh Collins as Vice-President. Motion Carried. Secretary/Treasurer: A motion was made by John Collins and seconded by Mike Mobley for Mike Redmond as Secretary/Treasurer. Motion Carried. Executive Board: A motion was made by Caroline Castro and seconded by Mike Mobley for Tim Moore for first Executive Board Positions. A motion was made by Jim Dempsey and seconded by Mike Molloy for Dana Russell for the second Executive Board Position. A motion was made by Sean Moore and seconded by Jim Dempsey for Gary Rundio for the third Executive Board Position. All Motions were approved. No contested Offices so no need for an election in May.

2025 Executive Board: President Sean Moore; Vice-President John Collins; Secretary Treasurer Mike Redmond; Executive Board Tim Moore, Dana Russell, and Gary Rundio.

Green Season Events: Green Season Events this year will be listed on our website as well as the Shamrock Club and most of the other Clann na nGael Organizations. A motion was made by President Sean Moore that we be Parade Sponsors for the Parade at the cost of $250. After discussion, the motion was seconded by Gary Rundio. Motion was approved. We will also participate the Dublin Parade on Saturday March 15th marching with the Clann na nGael. The Shamrock Club St. Patrick’s Day Preview Party is also Saturday the 15th. We will also participate on March 17th  Mass/Parade/Irish Family Reunion. Check our website for additional information on each event: https://www.emeraldsocietyofcolumbus.org

Other Possible 2025 Events: We would like to get back to some of the annual events we have done in the past. The Charity Bike Ride; Columbus Clippers Game; Golf Outing; Hog Roast; Blue Mass and Christmas Dinner. We will be working on this in the coming months. The AOH also sponsors an Irish Road Bowling competition in the spring if we might be interested in putting a team together.

Old Business: We voted in the last meeting to re-register our Emerald Society Logo with the Ohio Secretary of State. Secretary/Treasurer Mike Redmond will manage this.

Decease Members from the past year to be mentioned at the St. Patrick’s Day Mass: Bob Taylor.

The Golf Outing Committee was not present but still working on reviving this event.

Scholarship Applications need to be submitted by May 31st.

Columbus City Council Safety Awards: Caroline Castro brought up that the City Council has not made this award on Proclamation Day in several years. Since this is a City Council award, we are not sure if we can have input on getting this back on their plate for Proclamation Day.

Motion to Adjourn: A motion to adjourn was made by John Collins and seconded by Mike Mobley. Motion Carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:01pm.
